Fortunately, rain at this point in time, won't impact the grape vines, because they're dormant. That's always the good news about winter rains and viticulture. It's when the vines are blooming and rain washes off the blooms (later to be clusters) that there will be problems with the season's (lack of) harvest. The silver lining to that one - viticulturists will always tell you - is that a lacking in quantity will then be made up in quality.

Rains during the growing season can also cause mildew, bunch rot, etc.... but now, with no foliage... all's well in the vineyards. Ground water is going down and not being absorbed by the vines. (Even when vines are in a flood, they're still okay.)

I loved seeing so many of the same images that Gwendolyn and I got to see. Nice to see all of your wine reviews, too!

Super post. I'm inspired to try, although I don't think my local village shop is strong on Portugal. Lisbon is a lovely place, I have fond memories of a corporate jolly there back in 2000. At least, I think I can remember it...
