Visiting Cakebread

After Titus, we headed over to Taylor’s Refresher.  I had the most wonderful garlic fries ever. I’d go back to just eat the fries all day…but my sandwich was pretty tasty too!  Having “refreshed” ourselves, we made our way to Cakebread where a friend of Thea’s works.  We were treated to a complimentary tasting with a kooky fellow who was delighted to discuss all things wine, Scotch, and everything else with us.

2007 Sauvignon Blanc: $24. Clementine, orange zest, lemon sorbet, honeydew, grapefruit, citrus, short finish.

2007 Chardonnay: $39. Peach, stone fruit, mineral, 8 months in oak, pear, melon, lemon, very aromatic, slight cream, apple, orange, nice spice on the finish.  I took one home.

2005 Chardonnay Reserve: $54. Butterscotch, toffee, butter, apples, oak, butter, apple cake.

2006 Rubáiyat North Coat: $32. 83% Pinot Noir, 15% Zinfandel, 2% Syrah. Vanilla, coke, cherry spice, heavy aroma, raspberries, balckberries, some tanins.

2005 Carneros Syrah: 1% Viognier. Candied plums, vanilla, cracked pepper, some meat, flowers, white pepper, plums, cedar, perfumed. This was my favorite of the tasting.

2005 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon: $64. 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Very fruit forward. Strawberry, berries, blackberry pie, cream, tannic, red fruit in the mouth, pepper, earth.

2005 Dancing Bear Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain: $106. 6% Cabernet Franc. Darker fruit, black plums, vanilla, peppers, blackberries, black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, red flowers, dark chocolate, quite smooth.

Overall, a bit pricey.  But you know me, I feel bad if I don’t buy at least a bottle, so I picked one up even though it’s way out of my everyday range.
