So continuing on my South American wine theme that seems to be permeating my drinking habits these days, I picked a wine from Argentina to drink after dinner. Lately I’ve been receiving lots of wines from South America as samples, which is great, I love to check out new wine regions. I chose the 2008 Bodega Tamari Reserva Torrontes as the wine for the evening. It retails for between $10-$13, hails from Argentina, and clocks in at 13.5% alcohol by volume.
I found this wine to be one of the more aromatic whites I’ve had in recent memory. I didn’t even have to get near my glass to enjoy the honeysuckle aromas jumping out of it. I also found white peach, apricot, flowers, and slight banana. Overall I would describe the nose as light, airy, and enticing. In the mouth I got flavors of apricot, peach, stone fruit, pear, and a mineral note running through the whole mouth. I also got something slightly creamy on the back of the palate.
Overall, we loved this wine. If you can find it for $10, that’s a steal of a bargain for a light, fruity, refreshing wine. I can certainly imagine drinking this one on the porch during the dog days of summer here in DC.
