Who knew? I certainly didn’t. A month or so ago Richard of The Passionate Foodie inquired as to from how many states we had sampled wine. I mentally ticked them off. The usual suspects, California, Washington, and Oregon. Then some that I consider secondary suspects, New York and Virginia. And finally some randoms, North Carolina, Connecticut, and Ohio. Now I can add Michigan to that list, courtesy of my friend Lindsay who sent me 3 bottles of sparkling wine from Michigan for Christmas!
The wine, an L. Mawby Cremant Classic had a traditional sparkling wine closure, clocked in at 12% alcohol by volume, and retails for $22. I served it with turkey burgers stuffed with brie and topped with green apples slices and argula. This wine had an incredibly bready/yeasty nose with notes of honeyed nuts, golden delicious apples, and lemon drops. In the mouth, the bubbles were nice and small. I found meyer lemon, honeyed pear, green apples, and nuts on the palate. I thought the wine was well done, nice and crisp, with good flavors.

Cool, Sonadora. I’ve had the L. Mawby and been to their tasting room.
If you and Matt want a nice, long weekend you could do a lot worse then going to Northern Michigan, getting some sun on Lake Michigan and visiting the 40 + wineries up in that area.
Michigan is doing some nice wine — Pinot, Cab Franc, etc.
Jeff
Thanks for the info Jeff. I’ve actually got 3 more sparkling wines from Mawby in the basement! All a gift from a friend.
