*Disclaimer: I received this wine as a sample from the PR folks for Wines of Chile.
Remember what I said about warmer weather and white wines? I wasn’t joking, we’re going through the white wine in our basement like there’s no tomorrow…an alarming pace actually, especially given that the vast majority of my wine clubs send either no white wine or maybe 1 or 2 bottles of white wine a year out of an average of 12 wines per club. (I’ll do the math there for you…that’s 8-16 bottles of white wine a year out of just shy of 100 bottles of wine that arrive here yearly.) That said, I’m happy the folks from Chile sent me some white wines! Tonight I chose the 2007 Luis Felipe Edwards Family Selection Sauvignon Blanc. It had a real cork closure, clocked in at 14% alcohol by volume, and looks to retail for around $9. That’s a steal. Go buy some. Perfect Sauvignon Blanc for summer sipping.
On the nose I found melon, pineapple ,tropical fruit, grapefruit, sweet lemonade, white flowers, and a sweet greenish fruit I can’t place….maybe honedew melon. This just had an awesome nose for a Sauvignon Blanc. In the mouth I got flavors of oranges, pink grapefruit, grass, flowers, lemon zest, a little green pepper, and some tropical fruit notes. Overall the wine showed as tart, with a nice round mouthfeel and a great long finish. Excellent bargain this one.
