Sipping Sauvignon Blanc

This wine had the oddest closure I’ve ever seen.  I don’t even know what to call it.  It had a plastic ring that peeled off like the top of milk container, and then it had a plastic stopper made of the same black material.  Odd.  Anyway, I chose to drink the 2006 Deerfield Sauvignon Blanc the other night.  I purchased this from WineQ for $21.99 and it clocked in at 14% alcohol by volume.

On the nose I found grass, pineapple, cream, straw, tropical notes, something spicy…almost like nutmeg, and lemon.  I liked the nose on this one.  In the mouth I got tropical fruit, meyer lemon, some white grapefruit, grass, stone fruit, and lemon zest.  The finish lingered with tart grapefruit.

The price on this one was too high for me for what I found in the bottle.  The wine seemed a bit astringent to me with sharp edges that I didn’t care for.
