Round One With Chile

*Disclaimer: I received this wine as a sample from the PR folks for Wines of Chile.

I wrote yesterday about the live web-tasting I participated in with winemakers from Chile. Overall, an awesome experience, and one I hope to repeat in the future.  Sadly, we only tasted one white wine, which is a shame because I know they make some other really excellent white wines in Chile and I would have loved to have more of a mix of reds and whites in the tasting.  The sole white was the 2008 Emiliana Natura Sauvignon Blanc. It had a screw cap and retails for $10.99. This was one of my two top wines of the night and a definite rebuy. Seriously, I couldn’t ask for anything more for a delicious, inexpensive white for the summer.

The nose on the Natura showed grass, lemon, peach, white grapefruit, apricot, cat pee, orange, white pepper, and asparagus. The wine smelled tart and yummy.  Actually I wrote “smells delicious” three times in my notes.  Guess I really liked the nose! In the mouth I got citrus, white grapefruit, lime, orange blossom, grass, pineapple, tropical fruit, and a trace of minerality throughout.  Overall I found the wine to be tart with racy acidity, very refreshing, and extremely well done.
