Need Strikethrough

*Disclaimer: I received this wine as a sample from Gallo Family Wines.

I really wish you could use “effects” in the titles of posts. Or maybe you can and I’m just not that technologically advanced (a very good possibility). I wanted to title this post “Brothers Grimm Frei” but alas, you got a rant instead. Anywho, we popped open this bottle of 2007 Frei Brothers Reserve Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. If you recall, I visited the Frei Brothers property owned by Gallo on one of my recent CA trips. The Zin had a real cork closure, clocked in at 15% alcohol by volume, and retails for as low as $17 on the internet.

On the nose I got blackberry, spice, pepper, cream, vanilla, back cherry, black fruit, and black currants. I found the nose to be fairly fruity overall.  In the mouth, more black fruit, black cherry, blackberries, plum, a touch of strawberry, pepper, and a hint of bell pepper. It seemed a little astringent on the finish to me.

  1. I had the Frei Reserve RRV Syrah last weekend and loved it!

What did you think of their other wines? Do they compare?

    Cheers!

  2. Hey Randy-

Your comments keep getting stuck in my SPAM filter! I’m guessing it has to do with your url…!

I have only tried the Cab Sauv and the Sauvignon Blanc. I enjoyed the Cab, but didn’t spend much time with either, just tasted at the vineyard! I think I’ve got a couple other samples hanging around to get to.

  3. LOL! Thank you for getting back to me… my spam filter seems to have gotten more aggressive lately too. I can’t seem to figure out why certain messages end up in there.

I’ll look forward to hearing about the other samples!

    Cheers!
