Livermore Valley Wine

*Disclaimer: I received this wine as a sample to participate in a Taste Live.

For this Taste Live we tried several wines from Wente Vineyards. Wente Vineyards has been owned and family operated for the last 125 years in the Livermore Valley. I haven’t had many wines from Livermore, so I took the opportunity to participate in Taste Live to get to know these wines a little better. The Livermore Valley boasts over 40 wineries and produces wines from dozens of different grapes. Second up for the night was the 2007 Wente Cabernet Sauvignon, which clocked in at 13.5% alcohol by volume and had a real cork closure.

On the nose I found berries, spice, violets, cinnamon, chocolate, plums, and anise. I thought the nose was interesting and I could really see the influence of the Petite Sirah that is blended in. The wine is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remainder made up of Petite Sirah, Merlot, Barbera, and Petite Verdot. In the mouth, more plums. Black plums, spice, chocolate, cranberry, raspberry, black cherry, and blackberries rounded this one out. I thought it had a little heat to it, despite the low alcohol content.
