A Rosé Day

Along with white wines, I love Rosé for the Spring!  There’s nothing better than a nice dry chilled Rosé and sitting on our patio watching the hummingbirds play in the trumpet vines.  As the weather is finally getting to the few months where it’s not too deadly hot to sit outside, we’ll be drinking a lot of whites and Rosés, assuming I can actually get some into our cellar…our wine collection leans heavily…and I mean in a 85% or more way to red wines.  Tonight I chose the 2006 Domaine de la Mordorée Rose from the Cotes du Rhone to celebrate the weather.  It clocked in at 14% alcohol by volume, had a plastic cork closure, is a blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault.  We got this as a gift from our friend Angela, so I don’t know how much this one retails for.

On the nose I found cotton candy, strawberry, cherry, raspberry, spice, something nutty, and lime.  I must say, cotton candy is a new one for me…can’t say I’ve ever noticed that in a wine before!  In the mouth I found the wine to be dry, which I thought a little odd as the candy on the nose had indicated it would be a sweeter Rosé.  I got flavors of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, orange, lime, and cranberry.  I enjoyed the citrus edge on the wine.

    I agree completely! We ADORE rose’ once the weather starts getting warmer. I’m excited to see what the latest vintage has to offer. We enjoyed a bottle of Muga, a great Spanish rose’, earlier today. Yum.
